Beyond the seas, the Shan Hai Jing describes countries populated by people who should not exist. The One-Eyed Country, where everyone has a single eye in the centre of their forehead. The Long-Armed Country, where arms hang to the ground and people fish with their bare hands from the shore. The Feathered People, who have bird feathers growing from their bodies and can fly short distances. The Immortal People, who simply do not die. And then there is Kua Fu, the giant who decided to race the sun across the sky. He drank two rivers dry trying to quench his thirst and died reaching for a third. His walking staff became an entire forest.
